A collection of stories full of the joy of invention, all dealing with metamorphosis. In all the stories a surprising metamorphosis occurs that turns reality on its head - an Israeli couple disappear under a thick cloud of mosquitoes in India and turn up as the living centrepiece of a new religious ceremony; A Russian immigrant, a baritone singer on Jerusalem's sidewalks, turns into a desert mirage… The stories all touch on religious and political lines of dispute bisecting Israeli society.
Ioram Melcer studied computer science at the Technion, and linguistics at the Hebrew University. Today he writes and translates and is a newspaper art and literature critic. His short stories, essays and poetry have been published in various literary supplements.
